Bhairav Mahakala, also known as Bhairava or Mahakala, is a significant deity in Hinduism and Buddhism. Bhairav Mahakala is regarded as a fierce and powerful form of Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and transformation. In Tibetan Buddhism, he is known as Yamantaka.

Bhairav Mahakala is depicted with a wrathful appearance, symbolizing his ability to destroy ignorance and negative forces. He is often portrayed with multiple heads, arms, and legs, representing his ability to manifest in various forms to combat different obstacles. His body is adorned with skulls, bones, and serpents, symbolizing his transcendence over death and the impermanence of life.

He is typically depicted standing or dancing on a corpse, which represents his triumph over the cycle of life and death. In his hands, he holds various weapons, such as a trident, sword, noose, and skull cup, which symbolize his power to vanquish evil and cut through ignorance.

Bhairav Mahakala is also associated with time and the destruction of time-bound limitations. His name, Mahakala, means "Great Time" or "Lord of Time." As such, he is considered a protector and guardian against obstacles and negative influences, granting spiritual protection and blessings to his devotees.
